Remembrance Weekend

Thanks to the Punt Foundation, each Spring families gathered in a beautiful Ellicottville facility for a “Remembrance Weekend” – all eager to celebrate and memorialize their precious children (toddlers to teens to twenty-somethings) who recently lost their battles with pediatric cancer.

Tears of joy and countless tears of anguish are shed. Many heart-wrenching stories and many more heartwarming stories are shared. Two and one half days are filled with a seminar led by a nationally renowned grief counselor, several breakout sessions with local counselors, all kinds of activities for the siblings of all ages, a family art therapy project and, of course, lots of good food and the opportunity to make some lasting new friendships with people who understand what each is going through.

The Brian Moorman P.U.N.T. Foundation, along with volunteer help from several Western New York community hospitals and organizations, provide all who attend an unforgettable weekend. The foundation, under the executive directorship of Gwen Mysiak and its founders, Brian and Amber Moorman, strives to provide caring assistance in its many forms directly to the children and families touched by pediatric cancer. According to volunteer, Nancy Grzymala, for the past decade they have quietly done their fantastic work, but this compassionate effort that so many volunteers were fortunate enough to be a part of spoke volumes to those so deserving of their loving deeds.

Healing Hearts of WNY is proud to support Remembrance Weekend.  These families have left an everlasting mark on our communities, and they will continue to shape so many lives for years to come.  The weekend served as an important reminder our families are not alone in trying to cope with a lossand although the names and stories are different, the pain is unmistakably similar. Every story serves to inspire our mission in aligning community resources to assist in the grieving and healing process.
